"They can't even get a decent king for themselves, can they?" grumbled Heidi, carefully wiping his pet, the venomous snake Koba, with a cloth. Heidi doesn't like impostors, especially after what happened to him fifteen years ago.

He was still just a child when Gurjar came to the forest, striding around self-importantly with his entourage in wake. Eclipsing the sun with his grandeur, he looked like the most beautiful tiger in the world! All the animals gathered around to enthusiastically listen to the speeches of the new hero, whose wise words flowed like rivers. And no one had any doubts that he should become the new king of the forest.

In those days, the humans and animals were just beginning to get along with each other. And it seemed like things would get even better with the new king. Gurjar quickly get into his new role, appointed servants, and set the daily routine for everyone. But the tiger's temperament turned out to be quite challenging: one could only earn his regal favor through unquestioning obedience.

Relations between the animals and the people also worsened — King Gurjar began ordering his servants to ransack human fields and villages. Then the raids on villages turned into attacks on cities. But the final straw was the disappearance of the human ruler's newborn son. Beside himself with grief, the people's king accused the forest dwellers of kidnapping his heir. Enraged and armed to the teeth, the humans set off towards the forest to exact revenge. The animals, mortally offended at such a serious accusation, also prepared for a bloody showdown.

But little Heidi had a different plan. A lover of camouflage who knew the forest like the back of his hand, he went straight to Gurjar's palace. Peeking through the window and expecting to see the king of the jungle making plans for the defense of his kingdom, his jaw dropped at what he actually saw: a huge, disgusting demon about to devour the kidnapped baby! What to do, how to stop the murder? Heidi desperately reached around for something to throw — ah, a snake, that'll do! — and hurled it through the window. The snake was rather bewildered by this turn of events, but nevertheless dutifully sank its teeth into the target. Amazingly, this was enough to send the monster back to hell. The child was saved, and the humans, learning that Gurjar was actually a demon, called off the attack. The forest dwellers were not to blame for the villainy; the evil demon had only wanted to sow discord between humans and animals. Thus, peace reigned once again between them. The venomous snake, Koba, will also never forget that incident, and from that day on, he and Heidi have been best of friends.

"Kings, kings..." Heidi shook his shaggy head, "Who needs 'em? Life is good enough as it is!" He spat on the grass, stretched his legs, and went off to the Guardians' camp.
