Far, far to the east, nestled among the lifeless mountains, lies Graven, the city of the dark elves. The brutal civil war between the dark and light elves has been going on longer than anyone can remember. The dark clans dreamed of fully subjugating all of their enemies' lands, along with their main citadel — Riversar.
Her fair skin and silver hair made Dark Star stand out among her peers in Graven. This was a cause of great concern for the young elf: she felt very alone, unable to find either love or friendship, as both men and women avoided being seen in her company. Blaming it all on her strange appearance, Dark Star dreamed of only one thing: to become like everyone else. She tried dying her hair and darkening her skin, but it was no use. She was not accepted.
One day, she was summoned by the Supreme Mother, Ammana, who told her: "You are cursed, my child. You've been placed under the evil spell of the Riversar mages. Destroy the Sentinel and lift your curse, and you'll become one of us!”
Dark Star knew that Riversar's Sentinel was a magical artifact that protected the citadel, making it impregnable to the dark elves. It had been created several centuries ago by the greatest of the light elves, and nobody had ever managed to break through its spell. How could she possibly get her hands on it?
Early the next morning, the girl was summoned to the Council of Mothers and informed that a weak spot had been discovered in Riversar's defenses. But an entire army, or even a single team, would attract too much attention, so it was decided that Dark Star should go alone in search of the Sentinel. She immediately agreed, driven by her desperate hope to be accepted.
At the appointed time, Dark Star crossed Riversar's enchanted border. The Mothers were right: she passed through the defenses unnoticed! Following a map given to her by her fellow elves, the girl made her way to the very heart of the city, found the artifact, and smashed it to pieces.
At that very instant, an army of dark elves flood into the enemy lands, destroying everything that lay in their path. Within an hour, the invaders had reached the walls of Riversar.
Meanwhile, Dark Star stood before a large mirror in one of the citadel's many glorious halls, gazing at her reflection. There was no change. It was already beginning to dawn on the girl what had happened. And when a detachment of Riversar guards burst into the hall, it all became clear to her. As she looked upon the light elves for the first time, she realized why she didn't look like her brothers and sisters in Graven: evidently dark elves kidnapped her when she was little so that now, years later, she could infiltrate Riversar, destroy the Sentinel, and open the way for the dark elves to finally crush their long-sworn enemies. Too cruel to be true... Dark Star felt the ground falling from under her feet.
When she regained consciousness, carnage and mayhem were all around her. Thousands of warriors fought and died on the streets of Riversar. And Dark Star made up her mind: since she had become the unwitting cause of the bloodshed, it was up to her to put an end to it. Betrayed by the ones who raised her, she decided to take a desperate step.
With her mind full of rage and despair, she rushed single-mindedly towards her target. As the blood gushed out of Mother Ammana's neck, Dark Star did not look away. She calmly watched the life seep out of the woman who had ruined her own.
The death of the dark elf leader turned the tide of the battle. The invaders retreated, while Dark Star remained in Riversar, her true native home. However, for having destroyed the Sentinel, she was despised and treated as an outcast. The court of Riversar officially pardoned her, acknowledging her contribution to the victory over the dark ones, but ruled that she would leave the city as soon as possible. Wandering throughout the land, she met the paladin Aurora, who treated the exile with motherly care and introduced her to the Guardians. With them, Dark Star felt at home as never before, and her lifelong desire for friendship was finally satisfied. But the pain of betrayal has never ceased to torment her soul.
